Government says promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship is key towards boosting economic turnaround efforts in Bulawayo, and across the country.
In his remarks while officially opening the weeklong Bulawayo Business Network Expo yesterday, Industry deputy minister Raj Modi said the importance of entrepreneurship cannot be over emphasised.
“Today, we gather not just as individuals but as a collective force driven by faith, hope and an unwavering commitment to service towards building our Zimbabwe," he said.
“Our gathering here is a testament to the profound understanding that entrepreneurship is more than just a business endeavour, it is a vital form of service to our nation and our people."
He added: “In our diverse beliefs, one truth remains constant across all religions and that is the call to do good, to uplift others and to contribute positively to the world around us, every faith encourages us to live with integrity and purpose. This principle is the foundation upon which we build our businesses and our communities.”
The deputy minister said every form of entrepreneurship regardless of size was crucial in boosting economic growth.
“Entrepreneurship, in its essence, is a powerful manifestation of this principle. It is not merely about generating profit or achieving personal success. It is about creating opportunities, fostering innovation, and addressing the needs of our society," he said.
“Every enterprise, whether large or small, plays a crucial role in the fabric of our nation. It provides employment, drives economic growth, and enriches the lives of every Zimbabwean."

He urged entrepreneurs to pursue partnerships to ensure the success of their projects.
“May our endeavors be blessed and may they serve as beacons of hope and progress for our nation. By fostering a spirit of collaboration and mutual support, we can overcome obstacles and achieve great things together. Each of us has a role to play, and every effort counts toward the greater good.
“Your commitment to excellence in business is a testament to your unwavering spirit and your desire to contribute positively to our society,” Modi noted.
Speaking at the same event, Bulawayo deputy mayor Edwin Ndlovu said entrepreneurship was also key in reviving the city’s industry.
“As the Bulawayo City Council, we fully subscribe to individuals who wish to see this city regain its industrial hub status, therefore we support such individuals or companies that speak the language of reviving our beautiful city.
“As a result, let’s work together as the business in Bulawayo whether small, big or aspiring we embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship, as we view it as a pillar of strength in the city’s economic growth,” Ndlovu said.
Formed early this year, the Bulawayo Business Network actively serves as a platform to represent Bulawayo based business interests across the globe while also providing relevant business, economic and trade information with a view to revive the city’s industry.
