The Parliamentary portfolio committee on Mines says a partnership between the School of Mines and the Association of Mining Journalists in Zimbabwe (AMJZ) will bridge the information gap and promote a more nuanced understanding of the sector.
AMJZ was formed recently.
"We are happy that the Association has partnered with the Zimbabwe School of Mines to ensure journalists are trained on the mining value sector,” the chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee, Matangira Remigious, said.
The partnership seeks to equip journalists with specialised knowledge about the mining value chain to enhance the quality and depth of reporting on mining issues.
The training programs offered in partnership with the Zimbabwe School of Mines will cover a wide range of topics, from geological basics and mining operations to environmental impacts and regulatory issues.
"As the portfolio committee on Mines and Mining Development, we are excited that we will be working with The Association of Mining Journalists in Zimbabwe," he said.
"This collaboration will help bridge the information gap and promote a more nuanced understanding of the sector among the general populace and industry stakeholders."
With vast untapped mineral resources and ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment, the mining sector holds immense potential for driving economic growth and development.
