Harare-Mutare Highway accident death toll rises, police name victims

The commuter omnibus had 18 passengers.

THE number of people who died on Wednesday afternoon when a Toyota Hiace commuter omnibus veered off the road before overturning and landing on its wheels has risen to five.

Four people died on the spot and 10 others were injured in the accident, which occurred near Sunway City turn-off along the Harare-Mutare Highway.

The commuter omnibus had 18 passengers.

According to national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, one more person died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

Nyathi identified the deceased as Keyla Munene (11 months), Loice Rushizha (69) and Steven Ngozha (74), both of Dzivaresekwa, Joyce Mundogwinya (52) of New Ceney Park in Ushewekunze, all from Harare, as well as Violet Mesa of Nyamanhindi Village in Rusape.
