Ecotourism business plan to change lives of communities

THE United States Agency for International Development (USAid) says the recently launched ecotourism business plan will ensure that communities benefit from their natural resources and better their lives.

THE United States Agency for International Development (USAid) says the recently launched ecotourism business plan will ensure that communities benefit from their natural resources and better their lives.

The ecotourism business plan was launched at Nyangambe Conservancy in Chiredzi recently.

USAid mission director Janean Davis said the plan would promote sustainable development and economic growth for the community.

“It will serve as a blueprint and a guideline for how the communities, the private sector partners, the government of Zimbabwe and other stakeholders can identify opportunities to invest in conservation, benefiting everyone in this community,” she said.

“The business plan identifies product lines, infrastructure and marketing strategies to attract tourists and by working together we can ensure that this precious landscape is protected by locals for future generations.”

Chiredzi provincial tourism officer Roman Matura said there was need to ensure tourism improves the livelihoods of communities.

“This plan is a testament to our commitment to responsible tourism and our dedication to creating memorable experiences for guests who will visit us,” she said.

Matura emphasised that community conservancies, established in partnership with government and development partners, are a powerful catalyst for positive change within communities.
