Leaders of public entities should shun corruption to boost public confidence in their services, Transport and Infrastructural Development minister Felix Mhona has said.
Mhona made the call while officially opening the fifth session of the Transport and Infrastructural Development ministry’s public entities corporate governance oversight meeting in Mutare on Friday last week.
He said section 33(4) of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act was the ministry’s guiding compass.
“We remain committed to implementing it as expected of us. By adhering to corporate governance standards in the public entities, this boosts performance and makes good the provision of goods and services to the public,” Mhona said.
He said transparency was a top priority for the public entities since they administer public funds.
Mhona said public entities under his ministry allowed government to align its work with national interests.
“These national interests are anchored on the authoritative participation, voices, wishes and aspirations of the general public,” he said.
“Public entities must keep abreast with development in emerging corporate governance practices, which enhance transparency and accountability.

“My ministry strives to transform the image of our public entities in terms of their aptitudes to deliver statutory mandates, including adherence to corporate governance.”
Mhona applauded President Emmerson Mnangagwa for recognising the importance of corporate governance and putting in place appropriate constitutional and legislative frameworks for its implementation.
“It is up to us now to leverage on such robust constitutional and legislative foundations. I expect the public entities under my purview to draw inspiration from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s exceptional leadership, which is grounded in action and ensuring that we do not leave anyone and no place behind, as we fulfil the national quest towards Vision 2030,” he said.
