KADOMA-BASED property developer, Craft Properties Holdings, has donated 15 residential stands and 10 wheelchairs to people with disabilities (PWDs) as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme.
Company chief executive officer Kudakwashe Taruberekera told NewsDay that the gesture was in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s thrust of leaving no one behind.
“We are donating 15 residential stands and 10 wheelchairs to vulnerable people in our communities including people with disabilities. Among the people we are assisting are people with albinism who are getting five residential stands while people with disabilities are getting 10. We feel those with disabilities are the most affected as they are isolated from their families because of their condition,” Taruberekera said.
The company will soon convene a handover ceremony that will be graced by top government officials.
“Our thrust is motivated by the government and His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call to leave no one behind in line with Vision 2030. We are working hand in glove with the government and we believe this gesture also fulfils the aspirations of the National Development Strategy 1.”
Taruberekera said Craft Properties was open to partnerships in improving the welfare of people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups of people. He said there was a need to come up with infrastructural development programmes that are inclusive of people with disabilities. “We want to partner charity organisations and the government in housing programmes and embrace disadvantaged members of society,” Taruberekera said.
“We believe as a company we need to plough back into the community. We want to expand our corporate social responsibility programmes across the country,” Taruberekera added.
For the past 15 years Craft Properties has undertaken major housing construction projects aimed at easing the country’s housing backlog.
