A 35-YEAR-OLD Harare man defrauded several people masquerading as a Manchester City football club agent.
Agripa Guti was remanded out of custody to February 29 for routine remand when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing four counts of fraud.
State prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi alleged that around 2021, the complainant, Justice Nyevhe, met Guti at Alexander Sports Club where the latter misrepresented to him that he would help his son to join Manchester City football academy.
Nyevhe was convinced by Guti's misrepresentations prompting him to pay a total of US$2 500.
Sometime in June 2023 Guti gave Nyevhe a fake invitation letter confirming that his son had been invited for trials. But Manchester City distanced itself from the invitation letter.
In 2021, another complainant Didmus Mandinenga also approached Guti to assist him in ensuring that his son travels abroad for trials.
Guti misrepresented to him that he was able to facilitate his son's transfer to Manchester City.
Acting upon the misrepresentation, Mandinenga paid Guti US$930.
