POPULAR Zimdancehall artiste Energy Chizanga, alias Freeman, was yesterday summoned by the police CID Homicide for interrogation over his suspected link to suspected armed robbers.
He has, however, distanced himself from the allegations of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in which an alleged friend Godknows Machingura was shot and killed by police last month.
He is accused of having conspired with Machingura and Enest Mzenge Zhou to commit an armed robbery at Paul Chimbodza's house in Mt Pleasant in November last year.
However, in his warned and cautioned statement which leaked yesterday, Freeman denied the allegations.
"I vehemently deny the allegations in toto and will put the State to the strictest of proof to each and every allegation thereof. I never entered into any agreement with the said Machingura, Muzenge or any other person for the commission of a crime or for the intended purpose of assisting the commission of any crime (armed robbery in this case). I never conspired with anyone to commit armed robbery as alleged," he said.
Freeman, who was released by the police late yesterday, also denied having any relationship with the late Machingura.
"My association with Machingura was purely innocent and founded on music entertainment business/relationship…around 2021 he started withdrawing himself from me and would not share much information about his movement and travels to Zimbabwe."
Images had emerged on social media with Freeman posing for a picture with the late Machingura.

This is not the first time Freeman has been linked to criminals.
In 2021, he was also seen posing for a picture with another robber Charles Chirara who was shot and killed at the house of lawyer Joseph Nemaisa.
