THREE students from the TelOne Centre for Learning yesterday appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing a charge of leaking HEXCO examination papers.
Elton James (23), Kudzai Chumutsa (23) and Bradley Mangombe (24) were granted US$50 bail and remanded to January 18 for trial commencement.
State prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawo alleged that on December 8, TelOne, represented by Josephine Muzhangiri, received information to the effect that papers for examinations taking place at its learning centre had been leaked.
Muzhangiri carried out internal investigations and discovered that some students in level 1.1 were in possession of the HEXCO Engineering Mathematics paper which was written on December 7.
The court heard that the students were interviewed and revealed that they bought the examination paper from Mangombe.
Mangombe implicated his accomplices, leading to their arrest.
The country’s examination system has suffered a credibility dent owing to the leaking of examination papers. Several people have been nabbed for leaking examination papers, but this has not stopped the practice from continuing.
In an unrelated matter, a suspected bogus cop also appeared before Mangosi charged with extortion.

Norest Mubvuma (34) was remanded in custody to December 18 for bail application after the State opposed bail.
Jambawo said on an unknown date Mubvuma and his accomplices, who are at large, planned to extort the complainant after introducing themselves as police officers.
Mubvuma went to the complainant’s residence and alleged that he was under arrest for defrauding a Chinese national.
The complainant informed the police and investigations were carried out leading to the arrest of Mubvuma.
Total value lost is US$6 500 and nothing was recovered.
