DFA Zimbabwe donates computer lab to children’s home, pledges more

DFA Zimbabwe CEO Simon Chimutsotso (third from left) stands next to POTRAZ Director for Economics, Tariffs and Competition Hilda Mutseyekwa (in red) at the official handover of the Good Hope Village computer lab.

Open-access fibre infrastructure and connectivity firm, DFA Zimbabwe has opened a computer lab at the Village of Hope Children's Home as part of its contributions towards closing the country’s digital gaps.

According to officials at the organisation, the fully-equipped lab is one of their many efforts towards a connected world and also marks their commitment to future collaborations with industry stakeholders for digital transformation and enhanced communications.

“I am excited to be at the Village of Hope Children’s Home as DFA Zimbabwe plays its part in closing the digital gaps in our country. Our presence today dovetails to our vision of a connected Zimbabwe through robust and resilient open access networks,” DFA Zimbabwe chief executive officer Simon Chimutsotso said at the launch event last week.

“The future is a connected world, therefore, today we celebrate as DFA Zimbabwe brings a connected world to the Village of Hope Children’s Home through provision of this computer lab.

“We look forward to future collaborations with industry stakeholders as we pursue the shared vision for digital transformation and enhancement of communications in Zimbabwe and beyond.”

Speaking at the same event, Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) director for tariffs Hilda Mutseyekwa said Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has ceased being a mere subject in the school curriculum but a cornerstone of modern education.

“The integration of ICT in education equips young minds with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate and succeed in a digitally-driven world. By integrating ICT into our learning environments, we equip our young minds with the tools and skills necessary to navigate and succeed in an increasingly digital world,” said Mutseyekwa.

She added: “This lab represents a critical step in ensuring that no child, regardless of their background, is left behind in our journey towards a technologically empowered future.

“Our appreciation extends to the Village of Hope Children's Home, whose commitment to nurturing and educating children is commendable. Their work aligns seamlessly with our national objectives of improving child welfare and providing quality education to all.”

According to Mutseyekwa, POTRAZ is committed to universal digital access in Zimbabwe, ensuring every citizen, regardless of location or abilities, is included in the digital revolution.

“We have embarked on initiatives like training people with disabilities in both rural and urban centres, promoting not only digital literacy but also inclusivity. These initiatives are fundamental to our mandate of 'leaving no place and nobody behind' in our journey towards a digitally empowered Zimbabwe,” Mutseyekwa said.

Meanwhile, POTRAZ director general emphasised the authority's commitment to expanding digital access in rural and underserved communities.
