A GUARD employed by Securico Security appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndiroweyi yesterday charged with unlawful entry and theft of US$238 000.
Owen Muteeri (28) was remanded in custody to tomorrow for bail ruling.
State prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti told the court that Muteeri, who was guarding Online Logistics situated at 234 Delport Road, Sunway City, Epworth, connived with his accomplices to steal from the company.
His accomplices are still at large.
Muteeri and his accomplices allegedly destroyed the safe with a grinder and stole the money.
It is alleged that Muteeri went on to make a report alleging that he had been robbed by people who were armed with a pistol and a rifle.
In his statement, Muteeri said he was given US$5 000 by the robbers who instructed him to bury the money in a maize field which is 800 metres from the crime scene.
Muteeri then led police officers to the place he had hidden the money and only US$2 700 was recovered. However, detectives did not buy his story.
