THE trial of Zanu PF member, Sybeth Musengezi, on a charge of forging his home address to obtain membership in the ruling party continued yesterday with the second witness testifying.
Musengezi’s court troubles started when he challenged President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to power in a military coup in 2017.
The State yesterday summoned Oliver Muchemwa, the party’s commissar in Harare, to testify against Musengezi.
Muchemwa claimed that Musengezi used four different addresses to enter into the party’s database,
Musengezi, who was represented by Nqobani Sithole and Doug Coltart, denied the charge.
The defence said anyone could have registered Musengezi’s alleged false addresses because Zanu PF has access to government documents, including the registry.
Magistrate Yeukai Dzuda postponed the matter to today for trial continuation. Tafara Chirambira prosecuted for the State.
On Wednesday, the State summoned Godwills Masimirembwa, a Zanu PF Harare chairperson, to testify against Musengezi.

Musengezi filed a High Court application in 2020 challenging a 2017 central committee meeting that resulted in the late former President Robert Mugabe stepping down and Mnangagwa taking over as party leader.
