3 UDCORP directors to be replaced

In a statement yesterday, National Housing and Social Amenities minister Daniel Garwe, said though the appointment of a substantive board of directors brought stability to the organisation, the affected individuals are set to be replaced.

GOVERNMENT is set to replace three Urban Development Corporation (UDCORP) board members after they were recently elected into political offices.

In a statement yesterday, National Housing and Social Amenities minister Daniel Garwe, said though the appointment of a substantive board of directors brought stability to the organisation, the affected individuals are set to be replaced.

“It is important to note that UDCORP had gone for a period of more than three years without a substantive board of service. The appointment of a substantive board brought in stability and continuity in the organisation's leadership, enabling it to make long-term strategic decisions that will positively impact our communities.

“I am pleased to announce that UDCORP now has a substantive board with diverse skills. The ten- member UDCORP board is ably led by chairman engineer Caleb Makwiranzou, being deputised by Audrey Kwangwama. In light of their new appointments, my ministry is working on the appointment of new directors to replace the above,”Garwe added.

Makwiranzou was recently elected as Zanu PF Mutoko North legislator, while Jerry Gotora is now UMP-Mudzi senator (Zanu PF) .

Also to be replaced is Sithabile Gandi Ndhlovu who is now a Zanu PF councillor in Matabeleland South province.

UDCORP was primarily established to support and aid local authorities in planning and coordinating urban growth and development, as well as to raise living standards for the majority of Zimbabweans by creating adequate housing and supporting infrastructure. Additionally, it provides auditing services to Zimbabwe’s local governments.

Meanwhile, Garwe warned land barons that their honeymoon was over.

“To us land barons are land barons. We do not give them surnames, they must be treated accordingly. If there’s a land baron masquerading as a political land baron, he is committing a crime. A crime does not belong to a political party. The law will take its course. If there are people who are being duped by land barons, report the matter to police,” he said.
