ZimParks captures 3 Hurungwe stray lions

ZimParks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo confirmed that three lions had been captured.

THE Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) last week trapped three lions which were part of a pride wreaking havoc in the Nyamakate area under Chief Chundu.

ZimParks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo confirmed that three lions had been captured.

“I can confirm that our rangers set a trap and captured three lions in Hurungwe. Of these, two are females and a male.

“The captured lions have been translocated to Chewore Game Park,” Farawo said.

“We encourage communities to file reports when they feel insecure. We want a win-win situation, where communities do not lose livestock, especially cattle, goats and donkeys,” Farawo added.

A local villager Thomas Mudika said: “At least ZimParks reacted on time although a lot of livestock including cattle, goats and donkeys were lost.”

Speaking last week about the incident, Chief Abel Mbasera Chundu said: “Traditionally, it (lions roaming the areas and killing livestock) is an indication that something is not right and we will do some rituals to help affected communities.”
