The Cultural Counsellor of the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Zimbabwe has called for closer cultural co-operation with Zimbabwe.
Hamid Bakhtiyar made the call while officially opening a joint art exhibition between the Cultural Centre of the embassy of Iran and visual artists from around Zimbabwe led by the internationally-acclaimed Raphael Jamu.
The two-day exhibition opened yesterday and closes today at the Cultural Centre library in Harare, with several high-profile personalities and diplomats from other countries accredited to Zimbabwe visiting the display.
Jamu is scheduled to travel to Brazil on a cultural exchange programme.
“Iranian culture is very dynamic, and I think there is so much that local artists can learn from it,” Bakhtiyar said.
“So, the Cultural Centre’s doors are always open for Zimbabweans that are eager to learn about the culture.”
He encouraged young artists to stay away from drugs for their sake, saying it promoted a healthy youth.
“I applaud those young artists that are shying away from such practices,” Bakhtiyar said.

The cultural counsellor noted that Zimbabwe was a country with an abundant artistic talent that is still to realise its full potential.
Speaking at the same occasion, radio personality, Hazvinei Sakarombe hailed the joint art exhibition, saying it is one way of linking and binding people of various cultural backgrounds through exchange programmes.
