Brother in law threatens to grab Zvishavane mine

court hammer

A HARARE woman was granted a protection order against her brother-in-law whom she accused of threatening to grab her gold mining company in Zvishavane, Midlands. Mavis Mukono told Harare magistrate Tamara Chibindi on Wednesday that Dereck Bopoto was in the habit of visiting the mine, threatening her workers and stealing gold ore.

Mukono jointly owns Mukono Mining Syndicate in Zvishavane with her sister.  Bopoto is married to her sister. Her name was not revealed in court.

"I am asking that you grant me the protection order because my brother-in-law is threatening to kill me because of this mining company,” Mukono submitted.

“He goes to the mining site and takes mineral ores and harasses our workers there. The workers have all started to quit their jobs because they are afraid of him since he has been suspected in various murder and attempted murder cases in the same area.”

She was granted the peace order.
