MP channels CDF into boreholes

BULAWAYO East legislature Ilois Nyoni has channelled his entire Constituency Development Fund (CDF) towards drilling of boreholes amid a growing water crisis in Zimbabwe’s second largest city.

This comes as the Bulawayo City Council recently decommissioned Umzingwane Dam due to low water levels. Council has since introduced a 72-hour water rationing regime to preserve the precious liquid.

Water woes continue to worsen in the city amid surging diarrhoea cases, with more than 1 200 recorded so far.

Nyoni said he used his entire $10 million CDF allocation to drill three boreholes in the constituency.

“The CDF are utilised according to Parliamentary CDF guidelines which include that the project should be of tangible benefit to the community. After consultation with community leaders it was resolved that the 2022 CDF should be used to drill boreholes,” Nyoni said.

“The reason being that there was erratic water supply and the community boreholes would assist to alleviate the problem when taps run dry.”
