All is set for the staging of the 10th edition of the off-road motorcycle the Victoria Falls Enduro which will take place in resort town this weekend.
Autoworld Zimbabwe through their Isuzu brand are their title sponsors of the event for the second year running.
Established 10 years ago by the Zambezi Off-road Club, the Victoria Falls Enduro is an annual fundraiser for conservation efforts around the resort town.
This year’s event will run from April 29 – 30.
Four riders who have participated at the icon Dakar Rally namely Graeme Sharp from Zimbabwe, Ross Branch and James Alexander from Botswana while Zambian David Reeve is the latest entry to the event.
“Having these well known Dakar Riders at our event certainly lifts the profile of the Event. When world class riders attend an event, it encourages other high level competitors to participate,” chairman of the Zambezi Off Road Club Ian Gloss told Newsday Sport.
“Victoria Falls is extremely well positioned to grow this event in the coming years, we have great riding and the infrastructure to handle large Events,” Gloss added.
At least 100 riders from the SADC region are expected to grace the event.
Gloss spoke about the inspiration behind the event and the impact it has had in the last 10 years.
“Firstly those of us who are members of the Zambezi Off Road Club, love the outdoors and the Off Road Motorcycle riding and racing. It became clear once we understood the number of people that actually enjoyed the sport, that we could create an event in Victoria Falls.
“Our Club is a not for profit organisation so we decided that all funds raised from the Enduro would be spread around the various Trusts in Victoria Falls and the local community in the areas where we ride our motorcycles
“We have certainly made an impact, over the years. We have bought dip for the cattle in our riding area, assisted the community repair and helped maintain dip tanks, as we also assisted in drilling a borehole and equipping the borehole for Livestock watering
“Bhejane Trust, Victoria Falls Anti Poaching, Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust, and Vets for Animal Welfare Zimbabwe, and the Community at Large in the Chisuma and Chidobe Wards are the beneficiaries of the Event.
“We have chosen all these Organisations as they service a wide range of needs as within our community, this ranges from pumping water for wildlife and Livestock, Education programs on sustainable utilisation of natural resources and Vet services for local Livestock. As well as Patrols for the illegal poaching of wildlife and Trees,” he said.
The Zambezi Off Road Club chairman paid tribute to title sponsors AutoWorld and other key partners.
“This is the second year AutoWorld Isuzu have stepped up to the plate with a very generous pledge towards our Event. We sincerely appreciate the efforts and length Autoworld go to, to make this a successful event.
“Over the years we have had a number of sponsors that are worthy of mention due to considerable contributions they have made.
“These include Victoria Falls Liquorama, Wild Horizons, Shearwater Adventures, Batonka and Pioneers Lodge, The Safari Butler, BushCuisine,” Gloss said.
