WestProp to build US$12m ‘Michelangelo’ hotel in Zim

WestProp chief executive officer Ken Sharpe

PROPERTY developer, WestProp Holdings Limited, will in the first quarter of 2025 break ground on US$12 million five-star apartment hotel at its Millennium Heights development, it has been revealed.

Last year, the firm launched its Pomona City development and the Millennium Heights residential development.

The firm’s other developments include Pokugara Residential Estate, The Mall of Zimbabwe, Millennium Heights Office Park and the Hills Luxury Golf Estate.

Construction of the 150-bed hotel will take up to 24 months and it will be funded through equity, WestProp said.

The apartment block will have designed, individually owned units modelled along the Michelangelo Towers in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa.

“Millennium Heights Apartment Hotel will be a game-changer for Harare. This iconic development will offer unparalleled luxury, convenience and investment opportunities, cementing Harare’s position as a premier business and tourism destination,” WestProp chief executive officer Ken Sharpe said.

He described the apartment hotel as the “heavy weight” as it distinguished itself from the other middle and lightweight developments at the Millennium Estate.

According to the firm, news of the apartment hotel has been received with a lot of excitement by the market with inquiries already flooding the company’s sales team.

Sharpe said the apartment hotel would have five-star hotel amenities that include a rooftop pool, gym and restaurant, club house, conference and meeting facilities, exclusive retail spaces and secure parking 24/7.

The project is expected to create jobs both in the construction and hospitality fields and will contribute to Harare’s gross domestic product by boosting tourism and increasing accommodation options.

“This project demonstrates WestProp’s commitment to Zimbabwe’s economic development. Millennium Heights Apartment Hotel will attract foreign investment, stimulate local economic activity and showcase Harare’s potential as a world-class city,” Sharpe said.

Apartment owners will enjoy attractive returns through rental income and capital appreciation, hotel room investment and guaranteed rental income through WestProp’s hotel management arm, the firm added.
