WOMEN Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises minister Monica Mutsvangwa has called on women to work hard, with determination and passion, as they strive towards equal opportunities and respect.
Mutsvangwa made the remarks at the Women in PR & Communications Zimbabwe Conference and Awards 2024 ceremony last Friday in Harare.
In a speech read on her behalf by the ministry’s gender policy planning and programme management chief director, Lillian Matsika, Mutsvangwa emphasised the importance of recognising and celebrating women’s successes.
“Today, we gather to celebrate the remarkable achievements of women in the field of public relations and communications. These women have overcome numerous challenges, shattered glass ceilings and paved the way for future generations of girls to thrive,” Mutsvangwa said.
“Public relations and communications is integral to modern life, playing a critical role in shaping public opinion, promoting projects and services, building and maintaining relations between organisations and stakeholders.”
She emphasised the need to build networks and share information to build bridges for effective communication.
“In the 21st century, where information flows at lightning speed and messages can reach a global audience with a click of a button, effective communication becomes more important than ever,” Mutsvangwa said.
“As women, we have played a long and critical role in the field of public relations and communications, bringing unique perspectives, creativity and empathy to the table.

“Whether it’s crafting compelling narratives, managing crises, or building lasting relations, women have shown time and again that they have what it takes to succeed in this dynamic and ever-evolving industry.”
She said the ministry stood with all extraordinary women and pledged to support them in every way possible.
“The importance of recognising and honouring the contributions of women in public relations and communications cannot be overstated,” said Mutsvangwa.
“By celebrating these trailblazers, we inspire a new generation of girls to pursue careers in this field and break down barriers and shatter stereotypes along the way.”
Mutsvangwa urged all women to take action, speak up and persevere when facing any challenges to create a world where all women are respected and recognised despite their race or background.
“Let us remember that success is not an event, but a result of hard work, determination and a passion for excellence. As we say, never forget that progress is made by those who take action, speak up and persevere in the face of adversity,” she said.
Institute for Public Relations and Communications Zimbabwe president Fungayi Murahwa congratulated all the award winners and encouraged them to keep on working hard.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to all the recipients of the awards; you are a testament to the strength, resilience and determination of women everywhere. Your achievements inspire us all and remind us that the power of hard work, dedication and passion is never wasted,” Murahwa said.
“I want to urge everyone to network and exchange contacts because that is the main reason we have these events. Let the relationships grow.”
