LONDON — Michel Platini has said it many times that he wants to introduce a white card in the game. His idea was then opposed by the Fifa president Sepp Blatter back in October.
Michel Platini was speaking at the Dubai International Sports Conference and he said that he wanted to improve the game. He said that football should learn from other sports and we should always try to improve the game we love.
Michel Platini wants to introduce this card for players that sometimes overreact to challenges on the field and thus try to get their opponents sent off. He said that “yellow cards will exist too, but it might be interesting to have another card”.
The main purpose of the white card is that it would send off the player for a few minutes. The player would be allowed to come back after five or 10 minutes.
Fans don’t want their players to be sent off permanently so sometimes they will be given a white card that would keep the troublemakers out for a while.
Michel Platini pointed out rugby and said that football should learn from some of their rules. If a player gets a white card, they wouldn’t get any suspensions.
Michel Platini had Pierluigi Collina with him at Dubai and he said that football should be simplified so that it remains accessible to a larger audience.
Collina who is the Uefa’s chief refereeing officer said that there are many different types of offside rules. He argued that people who are sitting in front of their televisions should understand the offside concept completely.
