In the groove: Neglecting culture is detrimental to the country’s development

Alternatively, culture is defined as the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society. From this definition, it is difficult to define what the Zimbabwean culture is. This is perhaps why after 44 years of independence the country does not have a solid cultural policy. Or is it because the authorities have never taken culture seriously?

Patrick Mukwamba is a very sad man. Despite spending a long time thinking about and penning a lot of meaningful songs, he remains a bitter man. In the 1970’s, he went into the recording studios and spent a long time recording them. He still does.

Patrick Mukwamba of Bonus fame who is based in Rusape informed me that he goes to Mutare every other week to sell some of his latest CDs, but according to him, his sales have gone down. He attributes this to misfortune and bad luck and blames his ex-wife for his situation.
