Security Guard Heads Petrotrade

BY BLESSED MHLANGA

RECENT fights for the control of government-owned fuel utility Petrotrade shows that the company appointed a security officer as its Chief Executive Officer.

Godfrey Ncube who joined as a security officer is now fighting the board after it moved to replace him with more competent and qualified personnel.

Highly placed sources, told HSTVNEWS the Tinomuda Chinyoka led Patrotrade board, has been up in arms with Ncube, whom they allege is at the center of massive corruption allegedly bleeding the company of millions.

Chinyoka in a letter dated, February 28, to the Ministry of Energy permanent secretary, alleges that Ncube is not fit to hold the post of CEO.

“Crucially, this coincided with the process of hiring a substantive CEO, the Board had learned that at the time of Mr. Sikwila’s dismissal there was no one in the company in a position where they could readily walk into the CEO’s position. This had resulted in them asking the then Operations Manager who joined the company as a security officer to become the CEO,” Chinyoka wrote.

Ncube who has been heading Petrotrade as CEO, holds a Higher National Diploma in Human Resources Management, with Harare Polytechnic awarded in 2001 April.

The Petrotrade CEO struggled to pass his Advanced level wherein June 1993, he sat for Economics and passed with an E, this is before he wrote Law at the same Advanced level and passed with a C.

Ncube who has a textbook of Ordinary level certificates struggled to attain five ordinary levels writing one each since 1957, has been acting CEO for six years.

Chinyoka and the Petrotrade want Ncube investigated for stealing fuel at the company depot after declaring it as losses and threatening stock department staff with dismissal if they exposed the racket.

From the time Ncube was pushed off the position of CEO in January, Petrotrade which by 2021 had a market share of 2,68 percent, increased its share to 6,46 percent, and volumes of fuel sales moved up threefold in just three months.
