RESIDENTS in Rockview Park in Zimre are up in arms with a Chinese mining company after a 12-year-old boy drowned in a disused three-metre pit dug by the company.
A China investor, Yahua Group, through Kamativi Mining Company (KMC) has helped to repurpose the tin mine that was closed down in 1994 to produce the much sought after lithium.
According to the company, the completion of phase two will have a production of 2,3 million tonnes of ore producing 350 000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate for exports.
The villagers have since petitioned the Mines and Mining Development ministry and Environment Management Agency via the court to stop Seven Stars Mining from operating in the area.
