As the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) prepares to install a 60-tonne oil-pressing plant in Gokwe, can this initiative breathe new life into the cotton industry, or is it too little too late?
Cottco chief executive officer Roki Mutenha and national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development in a joint statement Thursday.
The update also shows that in Mashonaland East province, 116 farmers' payments totalling US$15 329 remain unclaimed, while in Midlands province the figure stood at US$32 872.
Reports indicate that business operations have been crippled at Cottco head office after Zacc officers camped at the site demanding information pertaining to day-to-day operations.
Why is it impossible or difficult to also remunerate (fully or partially) cotton farmers in foreign currency as is the case with other producers of export products like tobacco and gold?
