Apostolic sects embrace HIV and Aids programmes

Part of the Vapositori at belated World Aids Day commemorations in Muzarabani

Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson for the apostolic sects under the Vapositori for ED banner Biggie Musanzika (Madzibaba Jonah) led his congregants to the belated World Aids Day commemorations held in Muzarabani on Thursday.

Scores of Apostolic church members attended the commemorations marking a departure from the past when the church did not encompass health seeking behaviour.

Musanzika challenged white garment members to consider taking part in events such as World Aids Day celebrations and other health activities to curb diseases and stay healthy.

“Churches should also be involved in HIV and Aids events like this one because educating people on the pandemic helps prevent it from spreading,” Musanzika said.

The event was also graced by Provincial Actions Aids coordinator Angeline Tongogara and political leaders including Muzarabani South MP Benjamin Kabikira, Mbire MP David Butau and councillors.

National Aids Council’s provincial manager Edgar Muzulu reminded the community that HIV was still in existence and urged them to prevent new HIV infections.

“We are reminding you that HIV and AIDS is still in existence and we are driving towards total eradication of Aids by 2030,” Muzulu said.

The belated commemorations were held under the theme; Let communities take the lead.
