Mr Zimbabwe Novice heads to Zambia and targets UK

The reigning Mr Zimbabwe Novice champion Tinotenda Spencer Mutonha

The reigning Mr Zimbabwe Novice champion Tinotenda Spencer Mutonha is heading to Zambia where he will take part in the Fitness Physique Africa competition to be held on November 9.

The competition is being held at the famed Pina Hall in Lusaka, which has hosted the biggest bodybuilding competitions in that country amongst other top inhouse events.

The 21-year-old Mutonha is hoping to lift the Africa title that will also give the winner a ticket to participate in a similar event in the United Kingdom in 2025.

Mutonha who won the Mr Zimbabwe Novice title in 2023 has been training hard for this competition and has promised to bring the trophy to Zimbabwe.

"I have done enough preparations that even if the competition is held today, I am ready. I want to show them that Zimbabwe is the best in Africa in this field," said Mutonha.

The Fitness Physique Africa competition  features participants from all over Africa including Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe and of course hosts Zambia.

Mutonha, however, is not intimidated by the presence of an array of the continent's top body builders.

"We have good bodybuilders in Zimbabwe and I have competed against them and beaten some of them. I know what I can do and will do just that in Zambia," said a confident Mutonha.

Although he has been an all-round  sportsman and taking part in athletics and football, the youngster feels bodybuilding is his lifeline.

"At first, I was a master in athletics and football only to realize later that bodybuilding was my God chosen field. I cannot say I am making money, but at least it is making my lifeline tick," laughed off Mutonha.

He says he was inspired by Nunurai Museseneri and former Mr Zimbabwe Walter Munyikwa both renowned bodybuilders whom Mutonha says stay in the same neighbourhood with him.

The sport of bodybuilding has had its share of following in Zimbabwe and was made popular by the likes of George Takundwa, one of the greatest ever sportsmen to come out of Zimbabwe.
