Facelift for Chirundu

CHIRUNDU is set for a major facelift after the Chirundu Local Board acquired equipment through the devolution fund for the project and other council services.

CHIRUNDU is set for a major facelift after the Chirundu Local Board acquired equipment through the devolution fund for the project and other council services.

The Chirundu Local Board received US$638 982,57 as devolution funds.

Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo, commissioned the road rehabilitation equipment and skip bins for the town recently.

Council acquired a front-end loader, D6 Dozer, 15m3 Tipper Truck and 10 skip bins.

“The devolution projects which we have commissioned today dovetail well with the country’s national development strategy of attaining an upper-middle-income economy by 2030. Our government is committed to ensuring that all places in the country are not left behind in development,” she said.

“I urge Chirundu Town Board as a point of entry into the country to exhibit a high level of cleanliness and world-class service delivery. The skip bins should assist in ensuring we have a clean environment.”

Chombo said servicing and rehabilitation of roads, sewage and water reticulation were highlighted as enablers of economic growth.

Chirundu Local Board chairperson, councillor Revai Chaoma, said the new equipment would help lower the cost of service delivery in the town.

“We are happy as this equipment will go a long way in ensuring we provide quality service delivery to our people and this will assist council to timeously work on road rehabilitation needs,” Chaoma said.
