Students urged to embody Ubuntu in schools

BOTSWANA ambassador to Zimbabwe Sarah Sithabile Molosiwa has encouraged students to take the spirit of Ubuntu and discipline they are taught at home to schools.

Molosiwa made the remarks at the Old Mutual High School Quiz competitions held on Monday during a panel discussion with students under the topic What it takes to raise an African child fit for the 21st century.

Molosiwa appealed to young people to build respectable personalities that will not be drawn to socially-ill behaviours.

“Take discipline that you are taught at home to schools, by doing so you are building yourself into a respectable personality that will not be drawn to mischievous behaviours like drug abuse. Stand up to be true leaders of tomorrow and let it not perish due to these behaviours. Grow up to be leaders that society needs.” she said.

The Old Mutual High School Quiz Harare provincial competitions witnessed several schools performing. Schools that proceeded to the semi-finals in the first category were Churchill Boys High, St Mary’s, Herentals, Kuwadzana, Dzivarasekwa 1 High and Zengeza 1 High. Schools that made it to the finals in this category were St Mary’s and Zengeza 1 High.

The second category of the semi-finals saw schools like Harare High, Mt Pleasant High, Seke 1 High, Kuwadzana 2 High and Warren Park High battle it out to make it to the finals. Winners in this category were Kuwadzana 2 High and Harare High schools.

The four schools that emerged victorious in the semi-finals competed against each other in a tight competition in the finals.

Eventually, Zengeza 1 High scooped the first position making it the fourth time in a row that the school has conquered in Harare Provincial High School Quiz competitions while St Mary’s High School sat in second position and Kuwadzana 2 High School came third. These schools will be representing Harare province at the national competitions to be held in August.
