For 17-year-old upcoming Gweru artiste Leona Lilie, music is soul food.

The music teen sensation became a household name not only in her Midlands capital hometown, but the country as a whole after she did a cover of the song by the late Jamaican reggae icon, Bob Marley, titled Zimbabwe.

That cover version went viral on different social media platforms.

Lilie, as she is known by her growing legions of fans, did not end there. She continued with cover songs from local artistes like the hit, Wakatemba, performed by the duet of Zimdancehall musician Tocky Vibes and urban grooves crooner ExQ.

She did a collaboration song titled He Knows with Joyous Celebration singer Andiswa Mbantsa.

The keen artiste did not stop there as she did other cover songs including Ijipita originally by Winky D and did not disappoint.

Only last week she released her first single, Ntombi, which has to date attracted more than 2 000 views on the social media YouTube platform.

The song, which speaks more to “girl power and confidence”, was produced by Oskid and Puro Di Best.

“Ntombi is my first original piece and announces a new chapter in my musical career,” said Lilie.

“The song has a video which is a masterpiece and a must-watch for my fans. My music career will never be the same after this performance.”

She paid tribute to her brother and sponsor Gerry King, whom she described as a source of inspiration.

King is a local prophet with Gerry King Ministries, who has helped many upcoming artistes through his music stable, Gerry King Music.
