Rising musician Felistus “Feli Nandi” Chipendo is on cloud nine after her latest video to the single Mufudzi WeMombe featuring Trevor Dongo hit the 100 000 views mark within six days last week.
Nandi was recently expelled from her backing vocalist role at the Mhodzi Tribe band — headed by Afro-jazz musician Mbeu — for reportedly pushing her work under its auspices in what has forced her to establish a full-time solo music career.
Speaking to Standard Style, the ecstatic 28-year-old diva said the new feat was an inspiring leap forward and affirms that great things await her in the future.
“It’s exciting and not even something I ever imagined, but it seems like a green light for me to proceed and achieve bigger things in my career,” she said.
Historically, it has proved very hard for women to establish their own careers particularly coming from reputable bands. But the mother of two — who also doubles as a fashion designer — has professed having a smooth transition so far.
“I do not think I was ready for it [going solo], but if you are someone on a journey to success you need to do something in order to move forward,” she said.
“I was scared at first, but I am just fortunate that I have positive people surrounding me who have always assured me that although I was leaving my comfort zone, I would still make it.”

Regarding future plans, Nandi has vowed to take each day as it comes and will add another song, with a gender-based violence theme, to her growing catalogue next month.
“Since I am still starting out, I am just excited that my work is getting the attention it is. This shows that with more hard work, I could achieve greater things,” she said.
