KIRSTY Coventry has always been Zimbabwe’s Golden Girl, right from the moment she won the 200m backstroke at the 2004, and repeated the trick at the 2008 Olympics.
The 24-year-old athlete was one of the two Zimbabweans athletes who reached the final in the 200m race along with Makanakaishe Charamba, who finished eighth.
Furthermore, she was the youngest person for forty years to represent the USA at an Olympics when she incredibly reached the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles at the age of 15.
She finished first in her heat in the women's 100m freestyle, but missed out on a semifinal berth after finishing 25th overall, closing her tournament page on the first attempt.
