Communities in Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique are yet to recover from the deadly Cyclone Idai which made landfall in March 2019 and Cyclone Freddy in March this year.
The cyclone’s landfall destroyed homes, roads and crippled the national power grid, with an estimated 367 929 people mostly children internally displaced.
Today, as the beast looks us in the eye — cyclone Freddy — the cost of its destructions far outweighs the cost of environmental reforms, particularly in the construction industry.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the tropical cyclone left approximately 35 000 Malawians internally displaced, with at least 500 dead and thousands injured.
