EU launches photo competition to celebrate biodiversity

The EU public affairs team said the competition sought to highlight the relationship between nature and people.

THE European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe launched this week a photo competition to celebrate diversity under the theme People and Nature: A life in harmony to raise awareness about the richness of biodiversity in the country and demonstrate EU’s commitment to its conservation.

The EU public affairs team said the competition sought to highlight the relationship between nature and people.

“This photo competition seeks to highlight how protecting nature is impossible without supporting people and communities and how there is no sustainable future for people without taking care of the biodiversity they live with,” the EU said.

The competition, which is open to the country’s residents or Zimbabweans living in the diaspora is offering photography enthusiasts and nature lovers an opportunity to participate and showcase Zimbabwean biodiversity.

Participants are encouraged to capture and share beautiful images of the country's wildlife, ecosystems and landscapes to showcase how nature and communities can strike a balance and have mutually beneficial coexistence.

“Participants should submit photos inspired by the theme of People and Nature: A life in harmony capturing images that reflect the richness of Zimbabwe's biodiversity and interconnectedness of its diverse ecosystems, wildlife, plants and landscapes with the lives and communities of its people,” the EU indicated.

Participants are encouraged to submit a maximum of three photographs until July 31 taken in Zimbabwe accompanied by their full name and contact information of the author and a brief description of each photo including the location and subject sent via email to DELEGATION-ZIMBABWE-PHOTO-COMPETITION-2024@eeas.europa.eu indicating in the subject line: “People and Nature: A life in harmony.”

Three winners will be selected with the first winner scooping a prize of a voucher for two people for a safari of their choice in Zimbabwe worth US$2 000, second prize winner bags a US$400 photographic accessories voucher, while the third prize is a US$200 photographic accessories voucher.
