Cindy and Ex-Q reunite in nostalgic collaboration

Kunaka comes 20 years after the two first collaborated, ironically on Cindy's first recording. Cindy's debut recording was titled Staira.

Songstress Cindy Munyavi and Ex-Q have traced their musical journey, which stretches back 20 years, to collaborate on a new track dubbed Kunaka.

Kunaka comes 20 years after the two first collaborated, ironically on Cindy's first recording. Cindy's debut recording was titled Staira.

Staira with Ex-Q  was recorded 20 years ago at Dat Squad Studio, popularly known as Chamhembe.

"That was my very first recording. I went to the studio to audition in front of Take Fizzo, Ex-Q , Leonard Mapfumo, and others," Cindy said.

"I was asked to sing on a beat. Since I was a teenager and had a curfew, I laid a chorus and had to go home, promising to finish the song the next day. When I came back, I was surprised to find that Ex-Q  and Mapfumo had added their verses to the song. That was my first song on the radio, and I appreciate what they did for me," she added.

Turning back to Kunaka, Cindy said she knew the song would be a perfect fit for Ex-Q .

"I decided to link up with Ex-Q  again because I respect him, and he is legendary. When I gave him the demo and he accepted, I knew that was a good song. Ex-Q  has a special talent for identifying hit songs," she said.

After 20 years in the music industry, Cindy said passion and perseverance had pushed them.

"After 20 years, I can say that the one thing which is still the same and in common between me and Ex-Q  is a passion for music and a passion to give out good music and to strive to keep going. A lot of people get tired and give up," she said.
