Macheso to sample new album in Diaspora

Macheso will kick off his tour in Johannesburg at Baseline Newtown Music Factory on July 12th. The following day, he will perform at Madzonga Resort in Limpopo.

SUNGURA musician Alick Macheso has unveiled a line-up of shows in South Africa and the United Kingdom in preparation for his album launch on August 2.

Macheso will kick off his tour in Johannesburg at Baseline Newtown Music Factory on July 12th. The following day, he will perform at Madzonga Resort in Limpopo.

He will then travel to the United Kingdom for the Africa Music Festival on August 24 at Abbey Park Leicester. There, he will share the stage with Makhadzi, Tokky Vibes, Mambo Dhuterere, and Koffi Olomide. He will wrap up his tour with a closing performance at Kapital Venue in Leicester on August 25th.

UK fans will have the opportunity to hear live performances of some new music from the upcoming August second album launch.

For the past few years, Macheso has held his album launches in June to celebrate his birthday. However, this year, he has decided to postpone the launch to August due to cold weather, as he announced earlier this year around June.

“We can confirm that we have the album launch on August 2 at Alex Sports Club here in Harare,” said Tich Makahamadze, Orchestra Mberikwazvo publicist.

“We will also have some shows in South Africa prior to the launch and we will go to the UK after the album launch.”

Macheso's music was the subject of a thesis at the University of South Africa. Vimbai Chamisa's thesis, titled "Sungura and Social Identity: Narrating the Postcolonial Zimbabwe through an Analysis of Alick Macheso's Music," focused on sungura music and social identity in postcolonial Zimbabwe.

Macheso has been gearing up for the album launch by giving fans a taste of what to expect in August through snippets of the new music. He's also been performing shows across the country, with a recent performance at Gulez Garden in Kwekwe.

Details on collaborations and the album title haven't been revealed yet. However, fans can expect mature and refreshing music from the legendary artist.
