Gospel musician Jairos Mutambikwa was a centre of attraction after entertaining the homeless at the Harare Gardens during a community day event organised by the Greendale United Methodist Church (UMC).
The Greendale UMC hosted the community last Saturday and had three events starting in the morning.
They started with a meal sharing with the homeless at Harare Gardens as they were entertained by Mutambikwa before going to Danhiko and also hosted prisoners at their Greendale church in a day packed with activities.
It was Mutambikwa who kept the homeless on the dancing floor with his hits.
“I was at Harare gardens for a programme I was invited by Greendale United Methodist Church (UMC). the church was hosting a community day by providing food for the less privileged and the homeless,” Mutambikwa said.
“From Harare, we went to Danhiko and this is good for me because in Mutare l am doing a programme of talent scouting among the less privileged especially those who have disability, but have got talent.
“I am sponsoring the recording music of a person with disability.”
Reverend Cecil Mudede from the church said this year’s community day was successful.

“Every year we have events which we host to work with communities. So this year we organised three events, the first one is to feed the homeless and entertain with music. We hired a musician Jairos Mutambikwa and his team,” Mudede said
Mutambikwa, who is a Mutare City Council ambassador, said he was happy to have entertained the homeless saying they were also part of society.
The musician is a dedicated UMC follower (Mubvuwi), who started his music career in 2002.
In 2007, he was among other founding members of the popular Ndire Ndire Hilltop Wabvuwi, which has now rebranded to Hilltop and Friends MUMC choir.
He was the brains behind its first recording. "I have done two albums with the Hilltop choir in which I featured as a drummer," said Mutambikwa.
"In 2010, I was elected to be the chairperson for the Mutare District MUMC Choir and I sourced funds from Mark Connan for recording the album Padyo Nemuchinjkwa.
"The album did very well on the market and in furthering the Gospel of Jesus Christ in and outside Mutare."
