THIS year’s European Film Festival Zimbabwe will take place at the Mbare Arts Space in Harare on October 20-22 and Ster Kinekor in Bulawayo a week later under the theme Crossing Borders.
Established by the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe and its Member States in 2016, the European Film Festival Zimbabwe (#EuroFilmFestZW) has become one of Zimbabwe's leading film industry events.
On the other hand, Bioskop Zimbabwe Short Film Competition is calling upon filmmakers to take part in this year’s competition.
The competition has been a launch pad for many talented filmmakers who have gone on to make a name for themselves in the industry.
Festival coordinator Gilmore Tee confirmed the developments to Standard Style on Thursday.
“We are calling on all filmmakers from across Zimbabwe and in the Diaspora for the fourth edition of the Bioskop Zimbabwe Short Film Competition,” he said.
Gilmore Tee said this was an opportunity for individuals to discover new things, careers, promote intercultural dialogue and discover new approaches.
"With the advent of the internet and different ways of connecting with people in different places across the globe, the world has become a global village,” he said.

“This is also an opportunity for individuals to discover new things, careers, promote intercultural dialogue and discover new approaches.
“How are we using these means to our advantage and connecting with each other?
“Can crossing borders also affect our lives negatively, disturb our stability, and result in a shift on how we do things?
“Crossing borders may also mean starting a new life and losing one's identity during the process.
“We also have borders within ourselves, culturally, racially, religiously, or any other relatable borders.
“There are so many aspects that encompass the theme; therefore, we are curious to find out the filmmakers' interpretation of the theme - Crossing Borders.”
He said the winning film is awarded a cash prize and screened at the European Film Festival Zimbabwe.
Gilmore Tee said there was an independent jury panel made up of industry professionals, academics, community and business leaders which judges all films in the official competition.
