AT the height of the urban grooves era, Afro-soul songstress Plaxedes Wenyika’s videos would leave her legion of followers in awe.
Her love ballads, including Wadarirei, Hapana Angandida Sewe and Tisaparadzane had visuals that drew her fans close to their television sets whenever musical programmes such as Coke on the Beat or Mvengemvenge aired.
The visuals coupled with her melodious voice were out of this world until a time when Plaxedes went into oblivion.
She has on numerous occasions tried to come back, but it seemed as if she had lost that mojo that made her a household name at the turn of the new millennium.
If the visuals of her latest video of the song Feel Your Love are anything to go by, then the Wadarirei singer seems to have regained her footing on the dog-eat-dog music scene.
Feel Your Love is one of the tracks on the diva’s seventh album titled Phoenix Rising, which she released last month.
The video of the other song titled Hewo Moyo Wangu plucked from the same album is doing well, including on the video-sharing platform YouTube.

Hewo Moyo Wangu was released concurrently with the album Phoenix Rising at a colourful album launch ceremony at The Venue in Harare last month.
Videos for Feel Your Love and Hewo Moyo Wangu bear testimony to the fact that Plaxedes still has that extraordinary savour that made her a household name almost two decades ago.
Shot at Harare’s Ballantyne Park Lodge and Pan Africa Restaurant, Feel Your Love was directed by Leo V and features radio personality and model Godfrey “Chief” Koti.
“I had the privilege of working with Kizomba Zimbabwe instructors on the video which was directed by Leo V,” said Plaxedes.
“The actor was Godfrey ‘Chief’ Koti, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority public relations manager, model as well as television and radio personality.
“Feel Your Love was penned for the grown and sexy audience. In the song traditionally totems were also used as praise songs in intimate settings and they still are and l wanted to incorporate that in our music today.”
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, Plaxedes said she was now working on a DVD that will carry sweet love ballads.
“Valentine’s Day is coming soon and the DVD that I am working on suits lovers,” she said.
The songstress said she has invested so much in digital media in a bid to reach out to her legion of followers.
“The songs on the latest album and all my previous productions are available on all the major online music platforms. My videos are also on YouTube and fans are able to use the music on platforms as Tiktok or Instagram,” she said.
