Honeymoon is over for John the second

When John the second was appointed to the helm of the central bank he threw a huge party that was attended by his tribesmen down in Masvingo’s Gutu district.

My Dear People

When John the second was appointed to the helm of the central bank he threw a huge party that was attended by his tribesmen down in Masvingo’s Gutu district.

Videos of him dancing like a teenager went viral on social media.

John the second formally delivered the news of his appointment in front of relatives, in-laws, the traditional leaders and friends.

In the excitement, he made a very useful revelation. He said Ngwena, who also hails from Masvingo, had broken Gushungo’s record of appointing people from Manicaland to head the apex bank.

John cited the origins of his predecessors John Mangudya, Leonard Tsumba, Gideon Gono and Kombo Moyana whom he said were all from Manicaland.

Perhaps he did not realise then that he was telling Zimbabweans that his appointment was based on tribal considerations and not on merit.

Well, questions are now being asked about his probity after the new currency he introduced soon after assuming office at RBZ — the ZiG started crumbling only five months after it was unveiled.

After being introduced at ZiG13.5 to US$1, the funny money is now trading at ZiG28 to US$1 on the black market, which is used by most Zimbabweans to obtain foreign currency.

Some businesses have started rejecting the ZiG because of its instability.

Big businesses are choking because they are forced to trade in ZiG while their suppliers and service providers are demanding payment in foreign currency.

Meanwhile, John the second and Mthuli want to pretend that their experiment is working and have kept the official exchange rate at a fixed rate.

They certainly did not learn anything from the previous currency collapses.

Zimbabwe has now changed currencies six times since 2009 and very soon we could be headed for a seventh currency switch because nothing works if the politics is bad.

John the second must prepare for a bumpy road ahead.

The ZiG is going the same way as the RTGs, which was abandoned in April because it had become worthless.

Some like me, have never touched a ZiG note several months after it was released to the market.

I am told banks only received cash from John the second once and then they claim that we have a currency!

Zimbabwe’s currency crisis will never go away as long as the ruining party is in charge because its leaders have always been about self-accumulation and not service to the people.

It seems it did not take the Generari’s new wife long to adapt to the lifestyles of our political elites.

She is already swimming in cash, if that bizarre court case that kicked-off in Harare last week is anything to go by.

Prosecutors revealed that she was duped of almost US$1 million in botched construction deals.

The soldier, whom we were made to believe has acquired many qualifications, allegedly fell for the same trick three times on different occasions.

The story involves a Harare couple, who own a construction company that the Generari’s wife hired to construct a home, warehouse and a shopping mall in Filabusi where she was born and in Goromonzi.

Prosecutors claimed the couple abandoned the projects even after they were paid for the jobs.

The story as told in court left me with many questions and one of them is the source of the money that was being splashed in these projects. Zimbabwe seriously needs a lifestyle audit for politicians and their families.

Still on the issue of looting, long suffering members of the troubled Premier Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) last week voted to disband the holding company after it was revealed that it had become a vehicle for looting.

A staggering US$60 million was allegedly siphoned from the company between 2018 and 2022 through a defective claim management system.

The scandal that happened under the watch of the so-called second repubric was unearthed through a forensic audit.

It is yet another demonstration that Ngwena’s vow to fight corruption and end government leakages was just hot air.

The looting continues unabated and those that are linked to the Lacoste cabal are at the forefront.

Some of the people that have been previously exposed for taking part in the looting of PSMAS are still ensconced in the system and no one is willing to make them account for their misdeeds.

Amid the looting frenzy, most PSMAS members who are mostly poor civil servants have been dying because they cannot access medical care.

Meanwhile, the government continues to pay a blind eye to the criminal activities.

The clueless cabal has banned the selling of unleaded fuel following the gazetting of a statutory instrument that says all petrol sold in Zimbabwe must be blended with ethanol.

It is yet another arbitrary measure to protect the economic interests of an individual who has been previously identified as a major financier of the ruining party.

There is absolutely no regard for the interests of motorists, some who now have to bear costs to ensure that their cars can use blended fuel.

I am now convinced that George Orwell was delivering a prophecy on countries such as ours when he penned that epic novel Animal Farm.

You all need to read it to know how this country is being misgoverned!
