We’ll fight to the end: Mukamba

DENVER Mukamba

DENVER Mukamba has vowed that Scottland team players are ready to fight until the very end in their Zifa Northern Region Division One title battle with log leaders Mwos.

Second-placed Scottland visit Cranborne Bullets at Rufaro Stadium this afternoon with high stakes all round.

Success for the Genesis Mangombe-coached side will see them slash the gap on the pacesetters to four points, although Mwos will get a chance to respond when they visit Banket United tomorrow.

Seven points currently separate the top two teams, but the the Mangombe-coached side has their abandoned match against Karoi United still to be determined in the boardroom.

Mukamba is aware of the tough mission ahead in trying to dislodge Mwos who continue to grind results week in, week out, but has vowed his side will push them all the way in pursuit of a ticket to the premier soccer league.

"We have to do our part and win all our remaining matches and see how it will end," the former Dynamos midfielder said.

“We are up against a very good side in the title race in Mwos who have shown that they can be consistent, but the chase is still on. We will fight until the very end," a defiant Mukamba added.

"We are just hoping that they slip up at some point and we capitalise."

The 2012 Premier Soccer League Soccer Star of the Year revealed that his team-mates are desperate to win the championship to reward club owner and legislator Scott Sakupwanya for the huge investment he has made into the club.

"We have to do it for him. He has invested a lot in this club. In terms of resources, I am sure you would agree that we are one of the most  resourced teams in the country. He [Sakupwanya] has sacrificed a lot not just for this club but to develop sport in general in this country. That is why you see his Betterbrands label is everywhere. He is even sponsoring clubs that are in the premier league, the national team and other junior and developmental leagues. We would be happy to pay him back by winning the title and getting promoted into the league. Together with the club chairman "Mr Pound" [Tonde Sakupwanya], they are working tirelessly to make sure that we get promoted. We, as players, we will do our best and play our part to make sure that their dream is achieved."

Turning on to the match against Cranborne Bullets, Mukamba said they need to win the game at all cost.

"There is no room for error. Like I said, we need to play our part and continue to put pressure on the team on top of us."

He came in the second half in Scottland's 2-1 win over Golden Eagles last weekend in a match that they almost threw away in the last few minutes.

"Cranborne Bullets are a very good side and we will have to be at our best to make sure we get a result. Against Golden Eagles, we slowed down at the end and we almost paid dearly for that. We can't play like that if we are going to mount a serious challenge. We have a number of experienced guys in the squad and we should know better."

Besides Mukamba, some of the experienced players in the Scottland squad are Lincoln Zvasiya, Allan Gahadzikwa, Ronald Pfumbidzai, Leeroy Mavhunga, Wellington Kamudyariwa, King Nadolo and Cleopas Dube who scored a brace last week.

Nadolo is sidelined for today's match due to an injury.
