Mapeza dreams of a double

Mapeza has admitted that last Saturday’s loss left the Zvishavane side searching for an opportunity to uplift their spirits.

FC PLATINUM coach Norman Mapeza is unhappy with his side’s astonishing loss of form, but is confident that they can turn things around in tomorrow’s Chibuku Super Cup quarterfinal clash against Manica Diamonds at Sakubva Stadium and continue the fight for silverware on two fronts.

The platinum miners have hit a goal drought, scoring just one in their last three league outings, where they too picked a just a single point.

Mapeza hopes that they can improve the penetration up front.

But they come up against the team that inflicted their last defeat, where the diamond miners dented FC Platinum’s title ambitions with a 1-0 win at Mandava last week.

And Mapeza has admitted that last Saturday’s loss left the Zvishavane side searching for an opportunity to uplift their spirits.

He is confident that they will not lose again to the Gem Boys.

Moreso, the veteran gaffer is praying his men finish the job in 90 minutes to avoid the dreaded penalties, where they have not done well in the past.

“I’m not taking away anything from the guys since we ended on the losing side. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t manage to collect maximum points,” he told the media yesterday.

“We continue from where we left against Manica Diamonds. We still have an opportunity to push for the championship, and also an opportunity in the Chibuku Super Cup.

“These are two tournaments we are taking seriously, and we hope to reach the semi-finals and again we should shift and concentrate more on the league.

“We are hoping to finish the job in 90 minutes.”

Mapeza admitted that his side are in a mini crisis, which is worrying everybody associated with the club.

“We are in a crisis and it’s not only me who is not happy. Everybody associated with this club is not happy,” he said.

“This needs collective effort. We need support and it’s a phase, it happened last season, we were stuck in the same situation. It’s all about collective effort. Everyone must come on board.”

Last term, FC Platinum were booted out of the Chibuku Super Cup in the quarter-finals by Dynamos after penalties.
