Kieran Vincent wins fourth team title at LIV Golf UK

Golfer Kieran Vincent

Zimbabwe professional golfer Kieran Vincent won his fourth team title in his debut season in the LIV Golf League after the Legion XIII captured the LIV Golf UK competition at JCB Golf & Country Club Rocester, on Sunday.

Buoyed by Captain John Rahm’s one-stroke win over friend and teammate Tyrrell Hatton, Legion XIII finished the tournament on a combined -26 total to enjoy a three-shot cushion over nearest rivals, RIPPER GC on -23.

The team got its fourth US$3 million winners cheque for the season.

It was not the best of tournaments for the Zimbabwean golfer who finished in a tie for 41st on 2 – over par after three rounds and slowly looking like he will be relegated from the money-spinning golf league for next season.

Vincent shot rounds of 72 71 and 72 on the par 71 golf course while his brother Scott Vincent finished in a tie for 16th on overall 6 – under after carding 70 66 and 72 in the tournament.

Scott Vincent’s team Iron Heads GC struggled and could only finish in 12th place out of 13 teams overall 2 – under par.

But what is more worrying is Kieran Vincent’s position on the overall individual leaderboard where he sits 54th on the 56-member leaderboard.

His brother Scott Vincent also faces the prospect of relegation as he is currently in 49th place on the order of merit.

One has to finish in the Top 24 to secure their spot in the LIV Golf League for next season with players finishing in positions 25 – 48 facing a potential trade or release by their team.

Players finishing number 49 or below are relegated out of the league.

It has been looking good for Scott Vincent who has had some good finishes in the last couple of tournaments.

The two Zimbabwean golfers will have to be at their best in the last three tournaments which are all going to be played in the US.

But it has been a fruitful year in terms of prize money won for Kieran Vincent in his debut season in LIV Golf especially due to his team’s performances.

LIV Golf’s newest team continues to find its way to the top of the podium in its expansion season after winning for a league-leading fourth time this season.

It’s the third consecutive year that a LIV Golf team has won at least four times.

In the 2022 beta-test Invitational season, Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC won four regular-season tournaments, then capped the year by claiming the Team Championship.

In last year’s first full season, Joaquin Niemann’s Torque GC won four regular-season trophies but not the Team Championship.

And now Legion XIII has won four times, although the team remains in second place in the standings, 15.5 points behind Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC, who have two wins and four other podium results, including a tie for third on Sunday.

Although Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton are LIV Golf’s most lethal one-two punch this season, Kieran Vincent and first-year pro Caleb Surratt have produced for Legion XIII when needed, avoiding the crippling high scores that can prove to be the difference, especially when all four scores count in the final round.

“Even though it may not look like we had flashy scores today, we still put in good scores for what we had this week, so I'm proud of Caleb and obviously, the rest of the guys,” Vincent said.
