Newly promoted Telone FC almost caused an upset on their return to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after they held  ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga yesterday.

It was a good first half display that almost earned a win on the road after Eriya Mafirenyika and Hamilton Makainganwa gave them a 2-0 lead inside the first 16 minutes.

The hosts pulled a goal back through Sam Makawa 14 minutes before the break before Clive Dzingai netted in the 81st minute to ensure a share of the spoils.

Tel One coach Tendai Chikuni said there was a bit of complacency in his team in the second half leading to a draw.

"We played well especially in the first half as shown by the scoreline but relaxed in the process. We still need to prove why we were the (Central Region) champions in the last season and we will definitely do that in the next matches," said Chikuni.

The hosts' coach Newton Taundi commended the team for a good display.

"I want to commend my boys for a good display. Considering that we were playing our first match of the season, the result is positive to us though there is need for improvement in some departments," said Taundi.

In Chisumbanje, hosts Green Fuel came from a goal down to beat Bulawayo Chiefs and start off their league season with a win.

Washington Mapuwa scored a brilliant free kick two minutes before full time after Anelka Chivandire had cancelled out Panashe Shoko's second half opener.

Shoko gave the visitors the lead 10 minutes into the second half while Chivandire, who spent a season in Botswana last season restored parity with a quarter of an hour to go

Former champions FC Platinum kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 win over another newcomer Chegutu Pirates.

The Zvishavane-based side won the match courtesy of Juan Mutudza’s first half effort.
