Durham adds glitz to Domestic T20

Sport
A total of six teams will battle for honours in the seven-day tournament with Durham filling the sixth slot.

ENGLISH County Cricket side Durham are set to add glamour to the Domestic T20 Cup that gets underway with two matches scheduled for Harare Sports Club and Old Hararians Sports Club today.

A total of six teams will battle for honours in the seven-day tournament with Durham filling the sixth slot.

The other five teams are Rocks, Rhinos, Eagles, Mountaineers and Tuskers. It is, however, the inclusion of Durham that is expected to add to the entertainment already associated with this shorter version of the game. If their 2-0 series win against the Zimbabwe A in the three-day matches is anything to go by then the local teams are up for a massive high jump against the experienced Durham.

When their spin bowlers bowl, they spin the bowl to perfection and when their seamers pace up they hit the deck hard while their batters send the ball further when hitting at range.

This is what has been lacking in the past as the local players struggle to for consistency especially with the bat.

The tournament opener pits Southern Rocks against Rhinos at OH at 9.30am while Harare Sports Club hosts two matches, Durham up against Mountaineers at 1.30pm and Eagles against Tuskers at 6.30pm.

Action continues tomorrow with Rhinos having a date against Eagles in the morning and in the after Mountaineers take on Rocks at Old Hararians.

Durham will flex their muscles against Eagles in the evening at Harare Sports Club.

Meanwhile, Durham have launched their limited edition shirt for the Domestic T20 and the proceeds from these sales will go towards charity, confirmed Marcus North, Durham director of cricket.

"We are thrilled to be able to launch a special edition T20 shirt for the Zimbabwe T20 competition," said North.

"It is a privilege to have been asked to feature in this competition as we continue to build strong relationships with Zimbabwe Cricket, therefore, to launch a shirt especially for the competition and to support their local community with a donation from our shirt sales is something we are delighted to support and engage with."
