Driven by eternity : Kingdom perspective

It seems as if we no longer speak about judgement because we do not understand why judgement day is coming.

Noah was building an ark in preparation for the rain that was coming. When others looked at Noah, they would laugh because he spent over a hundred years building an ark for something they had never seen — rain. He spoke of God's judgement and the need for people to prepare for it. It seems as if we no longer speak about judgement because we do not understand why judgement day is coming. Many focus on judgement day as a time when sinners are judged for their sins, but it is not for sinners alone. It is also for believers, as everything we did on earth will be tested to see if it aligned with God's call for us.

The challenge today is that the message is now focused on building a wealthy  lifestyle here on earth. However, a wealthy  lifestyle alone does not bring eternal value. The theological meaning of the word eternity  is an endless life after death. Eternity is the life we live after death, after judgment. Many people fail to recognise that, no matter how good a life we live on earth, or how many cars or houses we have, if these things do not bring value to the kingdom, we will face great loss on the judgement day. On that day will be judged not by our earthly achievements but by how many lives we impacted and how much we accomplished for the kingdom.

This is not to say that we should not live good lives. We should have good lives, drive nice cars, and own beautiful houses. However, we should understand that our current life is just a fraction of the time we will spend in eternity. A single day on earth is insignificant compared to eternity. The messages of today have blinded people from the reality of eternity, but our lives should be driven by eternity.

In the book "Driven by Eternity," John Bevere uses allegories to show a city and individuals living ignorant of eternity, and what happens to them on judgement day. Each person is judged according to their works. Many people do not realise that judgement day is one of the most important days of their lives. It’s like right now we are  preparing for an examination that will set us up for your entire life. The life we live now is just a small part of our eternal existence. Therefore, our focus should not be on physical success, but on eternal success.

Eternal success is based on understanding who you are and what you are called to do. The Bible speaks in Matthew 25 about a man who gave his servants talents before going to a far country. This story is relevant today, as God has given us different talents. The question is, are you focusing on using your gifts for now, or for eternity?

In an article I  once wrote, I said it seems as if the poor are not heard. The Bible speaks about a poor wise man who even though he saved the city was forgotten. In that article I emphasised that the current increase we are seeing in the church is part of God's agenda to amplify the voice of his people, but sadly it has become the most blinding aspect . We need to understand that every effort and action we take should be for eternity.

It is crucial to live with an eternal perspective, focusing on eternal truths rather than temporary pleasures. My prayer is that we realign our understanding to focus beyond the temporary possessions ,but rather on  gathering for eternity.

God bless you.
