An 18-year-old Harare woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to drown her one year-old baby at a dam.

Junior Mafura appeared before Harare magistrate Estere Chivase on Friday and she was remanded in custody to August 16 pending finalisation of investigations.

Prosecutor Mercy Masamvi alleged that on August 9 an informant Simbarashe Magada (33) saw Mafura walking suspiciously away from the dam.

Magada went to where Mafura was coming from and discovered a minor floating in the water.

He jumped into the water and rescued the baby who was about to drown.

Magada  chased after Mafura who was running away and caught her at Mutamba Shops in Retreat, Waterfalls.

Magada took Mafura to the police station and filed a report.
