POLICE in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North province, have arrested a 16-year-old boy who allegedly raped his 11-year-old niece.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident saying the teenager (name withheld) is currently assisting police with investigations.
“Circumstances are that on August 1 at around 11am, the complainant’s grandmother went to Tsholotsho Business Centre, leaving the complainant and her sister in the custody of the accused,” Banda said.
The accused then sent the complainant to clean her grandmother’s room and she complied.
“He then followed her to the room and raped her once. After a while, the complainant’s sister followed the complainant and found the accused raping her,” Banda said.
The complainant’s sister waited for their grandmother to return home and reported the incident, after which the grandmother alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
The complainant was sent to Tsholotsho District Hospital for medical examination.
