Landlord jailed for assaulting tenant

Clive Mandipe pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was nailed due to overwhelming evidence adduced by the tenant. Dominic Dube sustained serious injuries as a result of the assault.

A-37-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man was on Friday sentenced to nine months in jail by magistrate Themba Chimiso after being found guilty of assaulting a tenant following a dispute over a rental increase.

Clive Mandipe pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was nailed due to overwhelming evidence adduced by the tenant. Dominic Dube sustained serious injuries as a result of the assault.

According to court papers, on July 4, at around 6pm, the two were at their residence in Bellevue where Mandipe informed his tenant that he had hiked the rentals. This did not go well with Dube, resulting in an altercation.

Mandipe assaulted Dube with a knuckle duster on his head. Dube was taken to hospital for medical treatment and a report was made to the police leading to the landlord's arrest.

The court was told that the complainant suffered severe injuries because of the attack.
