Briefs: Granny killed over polls

He pleaded not guilty to the charges, but was remanded in custody to August 31.

A 74 year-old man stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife after accusing her of neglecting household chores to go and vote during the Wednesday election.

The matter came to light at the Plumtree magistrates courts on Wednesday when Elman Tshuma appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware, facing domestic violence charges.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges, but was remanded in custody to August 31.

Prosecutor Arnold Mudekunye alleged that on August 23, Tshuma had a misunderstanding with his wife Wisiwe Gumbo on why she decided to go and vote before cooking and cleaning the yard.

Tshuma pulled a kitchen knife and stabbed his wife on the right arm.

The matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.
